The State of the Middle Class: Struggling (Jan 27, 2010)

Dahlkemper’s Liberal Policies Leaving Americans Wanting

Meadville – The following is a statement by Paul Huber, Republican candidate for Congress, on the President’s State of the Union address.

“This evening, the President will address a Joint Session of Congress on the state of our union.  It’s an opportune moment for all Americans to step back and measure the state of the American middle class, and our nation’s economy.

“Today, after one full year of unbridled Democrat control of the White House and Congress, our middle class is struggling to make ends meet.  Millions of jobs have been lost, and our unemployment rate is at 10%.  Even those who have kept their jobs have seen their wages decline and their hours diminished.  Middle class families, the backbone of our economy, are trying to figure out how they will pay their mortgages, save for retirement, and provide a brighter future for their children.

“Unfortunately for these families, the policies supported by Kathy Dahlkemper, Nancy Pelosi and liberals in Washington, D.C. have not helped our economy recover.  Their tax, spend and borrow approach to our economy has led to wasteful spending bills, higher taxes and a crippling national debt.

“It’s time for Congress to support policies that will encourage businesses to create permanent good-paying jobs and grow our economy.  It’s time for Congress to balance the budget and reduce the debt that will weigh down future generations.

“As a businessman and leader in economic development, I know that there is a better way forward.  With pro-growth economic policies and serious spending restraint, we can right our economy and put America back to work.”
